The Prince Albert Grand Council Women’s Commission hosted its sixth annual scholarship banquet October 23, 2006 at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert.
The PAGCWomen’s Commission honoured four women with $500.00 scholarships. The scholarships have been developed to support and promote women in their pursuit of educational achievements.

The recipients of the awards are selected on the following criteria:
Proof of full-time attendance at a post secondary institution
Must be from one of the 12 First Nations associated with the Prince Albert Grand Council
Career aspirations and community activities

The scholarship awards are not be based on academic marks alone, as all information about the candidate will be considered to award the scholarship to a dedicated student who is in need.

This year, 42 corporate tables were sold. The keynote speaker was Chief Tammy Cook-Searson of Lac La Ronge Indian Band. Chief Searson, who is from Stanley Mission, spoke of her move to La Ronge at a rather young age and of how she was determined to live a healthy lifestyle, free of alcohol. The mother of three has not consumed alcohol since 1988.

Entertainment was provided by accomplished Prince Albert musician Donny Parenteau and the St. Mary’s Dancers.
