The Post Secondary Career Start program was developed to encourage Grade 12 graduates to set goals and develop action plans for their future, either in the world of work or by going further with their education at the post secondary level. It was a very busy ten weeks with students participating in career exploration and job search activities as well as personal management skills workshops including Taking Care Physically and Mentally, Study Skills and Time Management, Money Management, Portfolio Development, Addictions, and Dealing with Relocation. Students also obtained certificates in Oilfield Safety training, First Aid and CPR and Construction Safety. Instructor, Jan Lentowicz worked with students on their academics based on the academic assessments that were done at the beginning of the program.

The highlight of the program was a trip to Ft. McMurray and a tour of Syncrude. When asked what they liked about the program, one of the students responded: “Everything, especially the trip to Ft. McMurray and the speakers.” The trip also included a stop at the University of Saskatchewan on the way home.

A second intake for this program started November 14, 2006 with 18 students.
