Trudy Morin Convocates with a Masters Degree in Psychology

Trudy Morin of Southend, SK convocated with a Masters degree in School and Counselling Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan on October 28. She was one of four that met the Convocation requirements in that program.

She is currently employed by the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Education Department in her home community of Southend.

Trudy has an added advantage in her ability to speak to my clients in her Woodland Cree language. She is working toward attaining her registration through the College of Psychologists in Saskatchewan.

On November 9, 2006 Trudy was the recipient of the Education Award at the 12th Annual First Nations [Women of the Dawn] Awards, held in Regina.

“I was honoured and humbled to have received such an award because I know that there are many educated and dedicated individuals within the 75 First Nations,” said Trudy.

Trudy has advice for others who want to take a path to success: “I would like to encourage everyone that reads this article, that education is important. Education opens doors, and enables individuals to be self-sufficient. Also, no one can take your education away from you because you worked hard to earn it. I believe that with every success, it is not only the individual that is successful, but your family and community had a part of that achievement. I truly believe that I made it this far because of my faith. I never do anything without praying about what my next plan will be and I thank my Lord for all the successes He has brought me through! To be successful, one must be persistent and work hard, and it pays off in the end. Strive for success and our children will follow!”
