Three scholarships were recently presented to former students of Opawikoscikan High School in Pelican Narrows.

The Mary Ann Mason Memorial Scholarship Award, sponsored by the Opawikoscikan Education Committee, is named in honour of the late principal of Opaw High School, and presented to a student with outstanding academic achievement and commitment. It was awarded to Nikita Nelson, 18, now a first-year student of the Nursing Education Program of Saskatchewan at First Nations University of Canada Northern Campus in Prince Albert. Nikita was a Grade 12 student at Opaw last year, graduating with an 87% average. She was awarded a $1000.00 bursary.

Anne-Marie Dorion and Alphonse Kyle Sewap were awarded the Arthur Morin Memorial Scholarship Award for outstanding academic achievement and commitment. The late Arthur Morin, who resided at Southend, was a chief of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation from 1971-73. Each was presented with a $500 bursary.

Anne-Marie Dorion, 18, is a 2006 graduate of Opaw High School. She, too, is a first-year student of the NEPS program at FNUC Northern Campus in Prince Albert. She had graduated with an 81% average.

Alphonse Kyle Sewap, 19, is a first year Arts and Sciences student at FNUC in Prince Albert.
